Cross Country Ski de fond Canada is thrilled to present the 2018 Ski-at-School program Powered by AltaGas Grant Recipients! This is the third year of the AltaGas Ski-at-School grant, available to clubs and schools across Canada, and the response rate was fantastic. CCC received 50 applications. Thank you for everyone’s growing interest from coast to coast!

In the final selection CCC and AltaGas chose 8 applicants. CCC is excited to announce the recipients of the 2017-18 AltaGas ski-at-School grant:

Foothills Nordic Ski Club, AB: With an established successful program, now in its 9th year running, Foothills Nordic was the first recipient of the first AltaGas grant, and are the leaders and trailblazers of the program. This year they plan to provide lessons at 7 different schools in Calgary and teach skiing to 700 students.

Parkland Cross Country Ski Club, AB: Parkland Cross Country Ski Club and Red Deer Nordic has been running a school program for a number of years and volunteering in schools. RDNSC offer school programs with approx 138 Teachers, 22 schools with 900 kids; with the after school program there would be 1230 kids participating in the program.

Nechako Nordic Ski Club, BC: This new initiative ski at school program enters its second year and will target grades 2 to 4 in Vanderhoof and 270 children will benefit from the cross country ski experience with a view to growing the program over the next 5 years.

Menihek Nordic Ski Club, NFLD: Menihek Nordic in partnership with JRS Middle School in Wabush, has started a ski at school program, goals are to sustain and expand 16 classes of Junior high students (aged 10-14) 480 students. The grant funds will mainly be used to buy equipment.  

Moose Kerr School, NWT: Moose Kerr School is looking to expand their after school program. Goals are to sustain and expand the cross country experience. The grant funds will mainly be used to buy equipment. Moose Kerr is planning to upgrade and expand.

Lappe Nordic Ski Club, ON: Lappe Nordic offered a Para-Nordic program for the past two seasons and has the access to adaptive equipment and ability to make the club’s ski-at-school program inclusive fromG3 to 7. This grant will introduce 100 children to cross country skiing with Para-Nordic/Adaptive programs.

École Curé-A.-Petit, QC:  A Phys ed teacher started to give xc ski classes 4 years ago to grade 5-6 children with old equipment from the 70's!  This grant will enable the school to purchase new ski equipment and expand program to grade 3 and 4 and weekend lessons. The School will introduce up to 200 kids in year one and offer programs to 3 more schools in year two.
